Jelly Beans: An Educated Guess To Satisfy a Craving

Good morning. Today’s problem is inspired by Valentine’s day (just ten days away). Here it is:

Backstory: Dr. Rational needs to guess how many jelly beans are in the below jar to win an unlimited gift card from his local candy shop. Given the sweet tooth he has, he decides to logic it out.

Problem: A 10 cm tall jar with diameter 5 cm is filled to the brim with jelly beans. There are 10 jelly beans per cm visible on the jar’s outside surface. How many beans are in the jar?

Hint: Surface Area
